HELLO Friends!!
As Labor Day approaches, summer—marked this year by record-breaking heat—is giving way to September. I always find this season a little bittersweet. Students return to school, gardens and farmers markets offer their final bounty, days grow shorter, temperatures soften, and football returns. Though it is hard to say goodbye to summer, September brings a welcome rhythm of its own.
The Buckeye Rug Hooking Guild (BRHG) Board is entering a season of transition, too. Five positions will change this year: Vice President/Co-Program Chair, Program Chair, Secretary, and Membership. It is a bittersweet moment for our guild. We are deeply grateful to Trish Baker, Kay Thode, Kim Mack, and Sue Newel for their care, commitment, and steady leadership over the past six years.
At our October Hook-In, we will warmly welcome new volunteers into the roles of Vice President, Program Chair, Co-Program Chair, Media Chair, Membership Chair, and Secretary. We are also grateful that our current volunteers will continue as President, Treasurer, Education Chair, and Show Chair. For the first time in a few years, every position outlined in the BRHG Bylaws is filled, a wonderful reflection of our members’ generosity.
“A Gathering of Friends” is the theme of our October Hook-In—and it could not be more fitting. I hope you will join us on Saturday, October 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton. Maddy Fraioli will demonstrate braided finishing techniques, and we will have a wonderful lineup of vendors, including our fall teacher, Jyl Robbins. We will also collect non-perishable food items for the Woodlands Women’s Shelter; each donation will earn a raffle ticket. Don’t forget to bring your rug for the throwdown! The registration deadline is October 1, 2026, and I look forward to seeing many of you there.
2027 BRHG Membership Renewals — For your convenience, we will accept membership renewals during the Hook-In, so you can skip the mail-in process and check this task off your list. Checks are preferred for recordkeeping, but cash will also be accepted.
Thank you for the support, creativity, participation, and fellowship you bring to BRHG throughout the year. Our guild is more than 25 years strong—an independent, nonprofit, member-run tradition that is truly one of a kind. I am grateful to be part of it with you.
